I like start heading home about 12:00 ~ 1:00

I left at odark 30 got back about 2:30 for coffee in Elk Grove, Thats with lunch in Grassvalley.

From Placerville to Colfax vea French Meadows Reservoir .
1.From Hyw 50 to 80.
2. back roads to French Meadows Rd. Stoped at Foreshill for coffee then on to 80 by Yankee Jims Rd

That's a nice loop, Nathan. Do you know if it's possible for the dirt-phobic among us to get between Placerville and French Meadows Reservoir without any unpaved sections? I've been down Mosquito Ridge Rd. to French Meadows and a bit beyond to Hell Hole Reservoir without getting my tires dusty, but I retraced my route that time and didn't try to go further south. Is your route all paved between there and Placerville?

I have not tried finding non dirt yet , but on the first part from Placerville the dirt is better then the pave part
And it's only about 10 miles.

There's a great, non-dirt road from Foresthill to Georgetown (or Auburn to Placerville) that takes you past French Meadows and within a couple miles of Hell Hole that's one of my favorites. There's no dirt and the road is in surprisingly (!) great condition. (Exception: The 3-4 mile optional round trip to Hell Hole Reservoir is full of pot holes.)

Depart Foresthill on Mosquito Ridge (or follow the signs to French Meadows). At FM Reservoir, turn onto French Meadows Rd and follow it for 6-7 miles until the Hell Hole turnoff. (Take the side trip to Hell Hole just for the photo opp.) From the Hell Hole turnoff, turn to 11 Pines Road for another 20 miles to Wentworth. Hang a right and 20 miles later you're in Georgetown. Stop for a quick coffee before continuing to Placerville, or in my case, take Marshall Rd to Coloma and then to Cameron Park.

The round trip is a good five hours but it's stunning up there. Take your camera.

Here is a great road its out of Navada City you take North Bloomfield Rd then turn it to Henness Pass Rd/Meadow Lake Rd then back in to Henness Pass Rd and can you can take it all the way to Hyw 89

This road is off of HWY49 and Downieville .
go to Downieville then take Galloway St it turns in top S401 to Henness Pass RD.

The Downieville loop includes (from the map) a good climb to reach the Henness Pass Road and would be interesting to do. Funny that you mention it, I was over the Henness P R coming back from Truckee and the Carson Valley on Sunday. Just past Alleghaney and before Pike City my GPS said left on (I think) Orchard Road or Orchard Meadow Road. I soon found myself taking a bad road, that was narrow, steep and rugged going down into Mid Fork Yuba River which was Foote Crossing Road. When I retraced my route toward Henness, which is now Ridge Road, I could smell sensimillia. Another reason to ride carefully and knowledgeably.

Your pictures are excellent, exciting to find such history and examples of others struggles who came way before us. It is hard to imagine no wheels, no three squares a day, sleeping in clothes you lived in for days and days; but to have in a backpack all of ones necessities, on foot maybe without a map and only word of mouth about unknown destinations. Enclosed my summit pic of Jackson Meadows Reservoir and some of the Rim Fire smoke.

Yeah, the 5 Passes ride was a bit chilly, but it turned out to be a fine route and I'm glad I went. I expect my toes will be thawed by Friday.
