R1200RT Comfort Seat, how comfortable is it?

Postby gabriel » Sat Sep 13, 2014 7:39 pm

We are debating to buy the one piece BMW comfort seat and have some questions for anyone who has one:
1. Is it much more comfortable compared to the standard seat for both the rider and passenger?
2. Is it worth spending ~$700 for it?
Thanks!

If you're going to spend that much on a seat, I would look into buying a custom seat from Rick Mayer. You can get a nice two up leather seat for less money and he'll customize it to fit you and your significant other's backside, riding height. http://www.rickmayercycle.com/

If you want ultimate comfort but don't care that you look like you're riding a John Deere tractor, look into a Russel Day Long. Again, probably cheaper than the BMW option.

Who the hell is ROSEVILLE Rick. I wouldn't take any advice from him. Ask ROCKLIN Rick.

Sorry Jaaaaack. I was a bit too rowdy for the guys in the Rocklin chapter of RCB so I've decided to start a new and even ornerier chapter in Roseville.

Ok, is there a perfect seat? Obviously the bike makers don't make one that fits all. And why would that be? WE ARE ALL BUILT DIFFERENT! Too many variables. No way in hell I would give the mother ship 700 plus dollars hopin' the seat fits the bill. What if it doesn't? You have an expensive seat that makes you cry for a coupla reasons. I will say this, I have had 2 Rick Mayer saddles. Did an Iron Butt on one. Was it perfect? Close. 1000 miles. Nothing is perfect, but this was close.Rick is not perfect, but he can build a quality seat. I needed an adjustment and got it. Ride in. Rick needs to rethink his customer service, but make no mistake, the man makes a quality saddle. You can dig up all sorts of pissin' and whining about all saddle makers. Some more, some less. If you truly want a custom saddle made, then guess what? DO A RIDE IN! RED BLUFF. I ride to Red Bluff for coffee.
Ridden Sargents, Corbins, not great, not horrible, but it all goes back to you personally. We are all different. Rick did an awsome job for me. I hope he works out his mail order issues because he is actually a good guy and builds nice saddles. Just my 2cents.

I did do a ride in. Unfortunately the saddle is a mess and he is a dick. Can I say that here? lol Glad some of you have had good experiences though.

Thanks for the advice. After thinking long about it, I bought the BMW comfort seat from A&S. Yes it is pricey but it was more than worth it and looks good. My wife and I rode from Sacramento to Ashland, OR with only one break. It was much more comfortable than the original standard seat. Thanks to Randy and Arthur!!!
