Oyster Run Campout

On Wednesday we ride to dinner and on Saturday we ride to breakfast. Those and any other rides are coordinated and (sometimes) reported here.

Oyster Run Campout

Postby Bob » Sun May 18, 2014 7:08 am

Wow! With all the great destinations and rides planned this year, it dawned on me that I better give a shout out for the Oyster Run campout and get a head count so we know what to bring.

When: Sat. June 7 after the Oyster Run to Marshall
Where: Samuel P Taylor State Park

What to bring: Tent camping gear and maybe a camp chair
What's provided: Saturday pasta dinner and Sunday Continental b'fast. Just come on in, sit down. Everything else is done for you. No need to hunt down meals while you're there.

Cost: FREE for RCB members in good standing

This year we have a Mini Group site, good for 15 campers.

Sign up below so we know how much vittles to bring

REMEMBER ALL: This is also the monthly club ride with some folks forgoing the camping and just heading on back to Sac'to after the oysters are gone.

Good to see an uptick for the campout.

Supposed to be 100 in the Valley this weekend. The campout should be enjoying the cool temps the Coast has to offer.

Can we assume we are using the same route as last year? (6-1-13 S.P. Taylor SP in the archived routes)

Thanks to Bob & Jackie for all their work organizing this camp-out & all the shopping, cooking & cleaning necessary to feed our hungry bunch. Great event. Thanks to Ken for planning & leading another successful ride. And last but not least to the oysters I didn't eat, your welcome!

Ditto mivie. The great thing about RCB is all the rides it affords. The grater thing is the company we keep. Thanks to Bob & my namesake for all their hard work which allowed us all to stay in camp and realign the tilt in the world's axis. Well done!

Bummer! We got lost and did not make it to Marshall store. We were following the route sheet and when it came to the intersection of freestone road and highway 1, the route sheet stated right on highway 1 for about 14 miles so we headed North. We ended up past Bodega bay just before Jenner. Had a nice lunch at an Indian restaurant - however, there were no oysters :) .

Do I need to return the hat I won in commemoration of the oyster run 2014 or should I just have it relabeled "160 miles to eat Indian food when 5 miles to Indian food in Roseville will do" . It was still fun with Marv, Bruce, Tracy and Chris.

The Indian food was great!

Yeah.....I'm not real big on the route sheets. That's why I keep Cpt. Kenny close. If you had a good ride and enjoyed the day, then YOU WIN!.... .OR, You could ride FASTER!!!!!! Or not. Maybe u don't like oysters.

The Indian food was great!

The left turn at Valley Ford Freestone at about mile 134 wasn't on the route sheet. My bad.
The right turn on the route sheet mile 135.9 was correct.
Sorry about that oversight on the route sheet. I guess we need to redouble our efforts to get some assistant ride leaders using GPS units.

......It's an imperfect world. "Ernesto and Friends"s little adventure serves to remind us all that it is the journey, not the destination, that really matters.

Maybe we should give away some Garmin 660s during the raffle! Then again, the tickets would have to be $100 a piece. Nevermind...

As much as I strive to ride and keep with the best, I know my limits. Any day riding is still a wonderful day. Just wished we reached the destination. I should look at the route sheet more carefully. In fact I was proud to be leading the lost group to the intersection of freestone and highway 1 which I was able to program into my zumo. Unfortunately. Marshall store did not show up in my GPS which made me turn back into the route sheet. Again no complaints here. Should know better next time. Hope to make the oyster run next year and not the tandoori/curry run (which actually was also very good).

I to was happy with the ride, I'm not that fond of oysters anyway. The coast was cool and I saw a lot of new back roads. Thanks to Ernesto's lead.

More asst. ride leaders, new 660's, keep up with Ken, better route sheets???? I know this is heresy but when all else fails I pull out my AAA map. Kinda like the Yellow Pages backing up Google. Let's hear it for Luddites!
