Morro Bay Ride April 25th and 26th

On Wednesday we ride to dinner and on Saturday we ride to breakfast. Those and any other rides are coordinated and (sometimes) reported here.

Morro Bay Ride April 25th and 26th

Postby Rand Olson » Fri Jan 10, 2014 3:52 pm

I've just spoken to the owners of the Morro Crest Motel and booked rooms for the above mentioned dates. At this point there are 5 rooms with 2 beds and 2 rooms with 1 King Sized bed and a roll away. There are additional rooms if needed. If you are interested in visiting Morro Bay in the spring please let me know and I'll be sure that you have a room ready for you when you arrive. My e-mail is jr@surewest.net and let me know if you are going and what your requirements are. Thanks,
Rand Olson

Is RCB reserving the rooms for us or should we just contact Morro Crest? I'll take the king if you're going to reserve it.

The address for the Morro Crest Motel is 670 Main St., Morro Bay, Ca., 93442. The phone is 805-772-7740. Talk to Gina or Denny and they will book you in the room you like. The rate is $75 a night for a room for 2 Queen Sized Beds and $68 for a room with a King and rollaway bed. :D

I made my reservation for a single this morning but the rate quoted was $75. Gina said it was higher because of the car show that weekend. Just FYI. $7 isn't going to be a budget buster....

Where and when are we meeting for the group ride, if there is one?

I think the plan is to leave from Shari's at 9:00am.
Shari's is at 960 Florin Road.

I won't be leading the ride this year, as I'll be in Visalia that week, so I'll go straight (more or less) to Morro Bay from there.
We'll need someone else to lead, then, and I suggest using the same route as last year, avoiding more freeway than previous years.

Last year's route information is available here.

Just putting my 2 cents worth in, but I suggest considering another route that does not go thru the Delta and doing something a little more direct.

I looked at the gps route & the route sheet also and would like to point out that they both take you to the Rodeway Inn where we stayed in 2013. This year the motel is the Morro Crest just a few blocks earlier on the same route. You can look back in the archives (April 2012) to find that one and see that it doesn't go thru the delta and uses more of I-5. Anyhow here's an updated sign-up sheet:

2. Al & Angel Morrison

4. Mike I
5. Terry L.
6. Larry M.
7. James S.

I'm sorry I'm not available to lead this ride, but I suggest that the delta route is preferable because it avoids a lot of the dead-boring I-5. Although it leads to a different motel, it goes right by the Morro Crest, so that's not a problem.

Ultimately, whoever steps up to lead gets to choose the route.

New route files are posted on the website here.
Gary Stofer will be leading the ride, and the revised plan is to leave Shari's at 8:00 a.m. in order to get to Morro Bay by 5 or so.
The route is similar to last year's, but without the ferry rides. We've done that lately, and we needed to shorten the route a bit.
The Santa Nella Chevron is only about 152 miles out, so please be ready to go with a full tank of gas so the first stop in Rio Vista is just for a bio-break.

I just got a call from the Morro Crest Inn asking to confirm our reservation this Friday and Saturday.
They also asked everyone to call them to confirm your reservation. Apparently a computer issue?
The number is 805-772-7740. Good Luck.

I also got a call late this afternoon wanting to know if I was still planning on coming. I said yes - she then asked what time?

I just called to confirm my reservation. What a fouled up operation. I told them that we should arrive around 5:00 PM Friday. She asked (I think?) about a 3 or 4 room reservation made by??? Was this the group of rooms that Rand may have originally talked about??

Update: Unless the foul weather forecast changes for Friday we will be planning to drive down on 4 wheels instead of 2 unfortunately :( . We will plan to see everyone else down at the hotel or at the dinner on Friday evening.

Based on the precip we had in sac today, I can only guess it was a rather wet ride to Moro Bay. You guys r my heros.

I was northbound on I 5 this morning about 10:30 just south of Patterson coming back from Bakersfield when I noticed a motorcycle gang headed south. I thought I recognized the lead rider as our fearless leader and when I saw Goldie (Tricycle Gold Wing ridden by Mike P.) bringing up the rear I knew for sure it was the RCB MC Gang. I knew they were about to hit a major rain storm as I had just passed through a big one. A wet ride to be sure. Hope all made it OK and are having a great time. Tom Moe
