Point Reyes Campout - June 1

On Wednesday we ride to dinner and on Saturday we ride to breakfast. Those and any other rides are coordinated and (sometimes) reported here.

Point Reyes Campout - June 1

Postby Bob » Mon May 13, 2013 10:14 am

Well, actually it's CLOSE to Point Reyes AND close to the Lunch spot for the Oyster Run (there are plenty of oysters left) route being planned for the June Club Ride.

We have three campsites reserved, each can handle up to six campers; 18 total . This is a change from last year, when there were eight per campsite available.

Never been? Check this out:
http://science.kqed.org/quest/science-hike/samuel-p-taylor-state-park-exploration/

What else is nearby; perhaps for the route home, or later on Saturday?
Point Reyes Station
Mt. Tamalpais
Muir Woods
Golden Gate NRA
Stinson Beach...for those that want to 'show off'

Bring your camping gear, some comfy walking shoes (if so inclined) and a camera.

This year, we will be having a pasta dinner Saturday night. Pastries, fruit and coffee/cocoa/tea on Sunday morning.

The best part about this is that it included with your annual RCB dues. So if you're a member in good standing, the event is FREE.

More info at the June Club Meeting.

What we need now is a headcount so's we can get the right amount of vittles.

Looking forward to it, had a great time last year. Is a very nice campground and an escape from the hot valley weather.

Sounds like a great alternative to 98 degrees in Sactown!

WOW -- what a weekend! After a terrific Club ride down to the Marshall Store for fresh oysters, about a dozen RCB'ers made a weekend of it by camping out in Samuel Taylor State Park on Saturday night. Bob and Jackie provided a delicious dinner (pasta with all the trimmings) as well as a beautiful breakfast on Sunday morning. The riding was fabulous both coming and going and it was at least 25 degrees cooler down by the coast. The best news is that Bob has already begun planning for next year's OysterFest. Thanks again, Jackie and Bob, for service way above the normal call of duty!

Cheers,
Gordy

I wanted to be first, but let me settle for second behind the omnipresent & ubiquitous Prez Gordy in lauding Jackie and Bob McCarthy for their bang-up job hosting the Point Reyes Campout. I with regret admit I had never really spent time getting to know these two-what a kick-especially my namesake. They put on one heck of a dinner and breakfast-I had no idea that would be supplied and supported by RCB. It made for so much more enjoyable an experience, being able to spend the entire weekend at the campsite, discussing issues affecting world stability, rather than suiting up, & unsuiting, to go into town & eat at the local touristo "Ripjob Dino." But way more than their gracious hosting, Bob & Jackie are a rare and delightful revelation. I'm soon to be married 48 years, I so enjoyed "watching them work," knowing the dues one needs to pay to keep things afloat . Among their many bemusements, let me mention only the brand new tent they brought. This thing was big enough to house our entire board of directors. It came with instructions interpretable only by rocket scientists. Could you imagine a better scenario fraught with the potential to commit marital hari kari? Nahah. They waded thru this hobodal miasma with newlywed patience. It just kinda made you warm and fuzzy all over. Thanks Bob & Jackie!
The only downer of the entire weekend was having to play sweeper to make sure we got the Prez home.

Thanks for the kind words from Gordy and Jack. On behalf of Jackie & myself, we had a really great time planning and executing the weekend's menu and festivities; easy enough with the company that we kept for Sat & Sun, and so much easier than trying to get a large group seated at a nearby (and spendy) restaurant.

We also were grateful for the opportunity to exhibit our bigger-than-a-trailer tent, which provided late afternoon amusement for the seated crowd in getting it put together (it's headed back to Amazon today).

The group was great, the weather perfect (if not a bit chilly at night), and the setting was beautiful.

Let's do it again next time!

Bob and Jackie.
