Eureka Ride June 25

On Wednesday we ride to dinner and on Saturday we ride to breakfast. Those and any other rides are coordinated and (sometimes) reported here.

Eureka Ride June 25

Postby Fred(Prez2.1) » Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:41 pm

We will be staying at the same motel, the Super 8 in Fortuna, for our annual trip to Eureka. Room prices are the same as last year - $70 plus tax. Just call 707-725-2888 and let them know you are with the River City Beemers to get this price. Friday dinner will be at the Eel River Brewpub just across the parking lot and Saturday will once again be at the Samoa Island Cookhouse. I will be starting a list soon to get an idea of how many to make reservations for. This will probably be the last RCB trip to Eureka for a while, so if you haven't ridden route 36, 299 or the Lost Coast, this is your chance to do so and enjoy that special comraderie of your fellow RCBers, so come on along! See you there.

Really? You would like to see the Lost Coast?

Fred, you gotta come with me. I know this special route through some scenic roads, rolling hills and twisties. Simply stunning. Honestly, it's the most fun you can have on a bike with your clothes on! Call me - I'll be thrilled to show you my route!

I knew that would get a reaction out of you. I put that in there because I thought others might want to experience it.

I will start the list since I just made my reservation. I heard an ugly rumor that the Samoa Island Cookhouse was closing down, but I haven't tried calling them to verify if it's true.

Called the cookhouse today and they are still going strong. I made reservations for Saturday night (6/26) for 30 of us at 7:00 PM. I also asked them to change the roast beef entree to chicken parmigiana which they said was no problem.

We will most likely be leaving from Susie's at 9:00 AM on that Friday the 25th, heading up to Marysville and Red Bluff on 99.

A tentative route is available at http://www.rcb.org/rides_and_routes.htm
For those meeting us in Red Bluff, we should arrive at the Chevron mini mart, 2370 Main St., about noon.

After seeing the post from Mehran (location SF Bay Area) and Fred's reply I e-mailed Ken and suggested a meeting place in Red Bluff for those of us not leaving from Roseville. We think the second Chevron station on Main St. (2370 N. Main) would be best. It's just before the turn onto 36.
Ken is going to put up a route sheet (and Garmin file?) either here or under "Rides & Routes" on the home page soon that includes time estimates for all turns and stops.

Yes, definitely the SECOND Chevron (are you listening Ken?) in Red Bluff. It's just off the Adobe Road exit from I-5 and has some pretty good BBQ sandwiches available there if you're hungry, and if you don't like that then there is the restaurant/gas station in Wildwood on 36. It's a pretty good place to meet for those who don't want to backtrack to Susie's.

I'm going to need a head count to reserve space for us at the Samoa Cookhouse, so put your name on the list if you are planning to go and haven't siged up yet. This will probably be the last club ride to Eureka for a while, so come on along while you can!

The route files have been modified slightly, and can be downloaded at Rides and Routes.

The Garmin file also contains an alternative route from Fortuna to the Samoa Cookhouse.

Wow, hot ride back to Davis. My daughter is grossed out by the puddle under my jacket. I am terrible at remembering names. Who did I talk to about their friend who has a R100RT? I had a very good ride. Jeff
