The origin of the word

Postby Fred(Prez2.1) » Thu Feb 08, 2018 12:58 pm

When the settlers came to America in the 1500's they found it difficult to farm with out fertilizer, and with no livestock they couldn't produce any. Subsequent ships were told to bring cow manure from England to help fertilize the colonies' farms. The manure was crated up and stored at the bottom of the ship, but in transit the ship's bilge water would soak the crates and create dangerous ammonia gas. The shipper, once told of this, started printing on all sides of the manure crate: Store High In Transit, or abbreviated, SHIT. And that's how it got its name. I always thought it was a golfing term.
